The Moon. A symbol with many different meanings. It is light in the darkness; an example of continuous regeneration; a representation of feminine power (and masculine in other cultures). Measure of time, symbol of Islamism, and also of beauty and purity… It is also related to madness, lycanthropy, the dark side of life, the door to hell...
This star and moon symbol is clearly astronomical in origin. The first record of this symbol comes from the foundation of the city of Constantinople, which had as protector the goddess Artemis associated with the moon, later the influence of Alexander the Great incorporated the star. In the year 1453, Mohamed II used this symbol in the capture of Constantinople.
